Electricity generating projects are being implemented in ukraine to strengthen the sustainability of the energy system
Measures to decentralize electricity generation are being implemented throughout Ukraine in the context of preparations for the heating season. This was stated by Herman Halushchenko, Minister of Energy of Ukraine, during the briefing in Odesa following the on-site meeting on the implementation of measures to restore and protect the critical infrastructure of energy facilities and to prepare for the 2023-2024 heating season.
The decentralization of power generation is in progress not just in Odesa, but all over Ukraine. A decentralized energy system is the most challenging target for attacks. Having many renewable energy sources and gas turbine generators will make it extremely tough to target them as they are scattered across the country," the Minister underlined. Herman Galushchenko noted that only in the Odesa region several projects are being implemented in this regard.
The Head of the Ministry of Energy stated that the experience of last year's heating season amid targeted hostile shelling of energy facilities enabled the development of solutions that will enhance the protection of critical infrastructure next winter.
The General Staff has developed appropriate solutions on how the defense is supposed to function. In Odesa, drone attacks caused the most damage to the energy sector. This is up to 80% of the total damage. We are currently working on strengthening air defense to protect against missiles and introducing other tools to protect against drones», the Minister said.
