Creation of a recreation and psychological relief ecosystem: reconstruction of the Central Park

The goal of the project is to reconstruct the city park and transform it into a modern public space that combines recreation, active leisure, and the support of residents’ mental well-being with opportunities for small business development and investment attraction.

The project envisions the reconstruction of the Oster River embankment in Nizhyn to create a modern recreational area. Construction of a rehabilitation and sports complex

The project envisions the creation of an inclusive rehabilitation and sports complex that combines modern infrastructure for sporting events, physical rehabilitation, and psychological support. The complex is designed to meet the needs of those affected by the war, as well as youth and people of all age groups.

Construction of Solar Power Plants

Ensuring full autonomy of the city’s water supply system during the summer period and up to 70% autonomy in winter in the event of a complete power outage. The project also aims to maximize efficiency even under normal conditions by reducing electricity consumption from the grid.

Major renovation of the house where Yuriy F. Lysiankskyi was born

Creation of a tourist attraction in the very center of the city, aimed at increasing the number of visitors, promoting and restoring Ukrainian historical figures to their rightful place in national history, and conducting educational activities to study local history in the broader context of the state’s history.

Reconstruction of the gravity sewage collector

The project envisions the rehabilitation of a sewer collector using the method of pulling a polyethylene pipe. The works include cleaning and CCTV inspection, dismantling of manholes, installation of a bypass line, restoration of manholes, sealing of the inter-pipe space, backfilling, and landscaping.

Creation of the “Unbroken” Veteran Space in Nizhyn

Project Goal:
To create a modern space for veterans, their families, and families of fallen soldiers, providing psychological support, professional development, and social integration.

Implementation:
● Concept and functional zones of the space have been developed
● Premises have been equipped according to veterans’ needs and inclusivity principles
● The first veteran space in Chernihiv Region has been opened
● Trainings, psychological consultations, legal and social support are provided
● In 1.5 years, over 250 families of veterans and servicemen have received assistance

Employment and Socio-Psychological Adaptation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)

Partners / Participants / Donors: European Union (EU), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), “Mayors for Economic Growth” Initiative (M4EG), Nizhyn City Council, Municipal Enterprise of the Community
Project Goal: To create jobs for community residents and IDPs, provide professional training and social adaptation, and increase the community’s economic activity.
Implementation:● A sewing workshop has been established within the municipal enterprise● 20 jobs created, with some positions offering training in new professions● Conditions provided for training specialists without prior experience● Production launched with a focus on social integration and sustainability

Development of the Consultation and Promotion Support System

Project Goal:

● A working group meeting with the Entrepreneurs’ Council was held and the Plan was updated
● LED screen installed for product promotion
● Computer equipment and gadgets purchased for the Business Hub
● Equipment set up and operations launched
● Community informed about new business support opportunities

Modernization of the Centralized Heating System

Partners / Participants / Donors: NEFCO, International Company EGIS Water and Maritime, Project Implementation Group at the Executive Committee of Nizhyn City Council
Project Goal: To improve the city’s heating system by replacing old networks with energy-efficient ones, reducing heat losses, and increasing infrastructure reliability.
Implementation:● Coordination meeting held with NEFCO and technical experts● Reconstruction sites inspected; compliance with schedule and standards confirmed● Replacement of old heating networks with modern systems is ongoing● Project fully financed by NEFCO grant funds – €2 million

TEPLO (Panelka 2.0) — Eco-Friendly (Bio-Based) Insulation of a Soviet-Era Residential Building

Partners / Participants / Donors: Neo-Eco, Matek AS, teplo-project.in.ua, ReThink, Ro3kvit Urban Coalition for Ukraine

Project Goal:
To increase energy efficiency and residents’ comfort by insulating the building with prefabricated panels made from natural materials. To promote circular, eco-friendly construction following the principles of the New European Bauhaus — efficiency, aesthetics, and community participation.

Implementation:
● Demonstration insulation of a building in Nizhyn using bio-based panels has begun
● Residents engaged in the design and implementation process, ensuring transparency and addressing their needs
● Communication, branding, and project promotion are managed by ReThink, including development of recommendations for scaling up

Strengthening the Capacity to Provide Rehabilitation Services for People Affected by the War

Partners / Participants / Donors: NGO “MISTO N,” United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Government of Japan

Project Goal:
To ensure access to quality rehabilitation services for people affected by the war by strengthening the material and technical base and developing infrastructure in Nizhyn.

Implementation:
● Rehabilitation equipment purchased to provide necessary services
● Facilities equipped with generators and uninterrupted power supply systems
● Conditions created to develop a network of rehabilitation services for individuals with physical and psychological injuries, including IDPs and veterans

Facade Renovation and Creation of an Inclusive Entrance at “Progress” Shopping Center

Partners / Participants / Donors: International Organization for Migration (IOM) under the HREF program, Executive Committee of Nizhyn City Council, Municipal Enterprise “Communal Market”

Project Goal:
To create a modern, safe, and barrier-free space at the shopping center for all visitors — including people with disabilities, the elderly, and parents with children — while improving the building’s exterior in consideration of its historical heritage.

Implementation:
● Preparation of design and estimate documentation has begun
● Technical parameters of the renovation coordinated with IOM
● Plan for facade modernization and inclusive entrance development established
● Project is in the initial stage of implementation
